Study tour in Poland

The repre-sentatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and the Centre for Effective Governance System and Territorial Arrangement Reform (CEGSTAR) visited Poland for the study tour.

On 16–20 of March the secretariat of the Task Force has presented Draft Diagnostic Report to the Ministries of Regional Development and Infrastructure; Finance; Economic Development; Labor, Health and Social Affairs; Agriculture; Foreign Affairs; Environment Protection and Natural Resources and Justice.

The Diagnostic report is the first output of the Task Force, which covers the analysis of problems and potential in the field of  regional development in Georgia, including analysis of the existing concepts and practices of Georgian regional development in the context of international best practices, with special regard to the successful experiences in other countries, also evaluation of the instruments of regional development already tried and applied in Georgia through Government and non-government activities and projects.

The chairman of the Task Force is Mr. David Tkeshelashvili, Minister of Regional Development and infrastructure. The activities of the Task Force Working Groups is highly related to the objectives of the Ministry, therefore the first meeting was held with the mentioned newly established Ministry. The Meeting was attended by deputy ministers Mr. Jambul Bakuradze (first deputy) and Mr. George Kervalishvili and also by other representatives of the Ministry. The session was opened by Ms. Nino Danibegashvili, Head of the Secretariat, deputy ministers have spoken about the importance of the project and then each secretary of the Working Groups has presented consequent part of the report.

Meetings with the representatives of other ministries were held individually by each secretary.

On 19th of March, Delegation of European Commission to Georgia has hosted the task force secretariat. Presentation of the Draft Diagnostic Report at EC Delegation was attended by representatives of international organizations and embassies (EC Delegation to Georgia, UNDP, UNICEF, SIDA, GTZ, World Bank, Embassy of the United Kingdom, Embassy of the republic of Italy, Embassy of France and Embassy of the republic of Greece)

The representatives of the Ministries as well as International Organizations had chance to get acquainted with Draft Diagnostic Report earlier, therefore the meetings were quite active and each working Group has received verbal (at this stage) recommendations and remarks form participants of each meeting. Thus the purpose of the meeting was to consider the recommendations of every interested party before the Diagnostic Report is presented to the Task Force for review and approval.
